The Skinification of Hair is a trend we have started to hear more about over the past few years, and it involves looking after your scalp and hair as you would look after the skin on your body and face and having in place a tailored routine that will deeply nourish the scalp and allow for optimal hair growth and hair health.

As with your skin, you choose products to use that are specifically tailored for your skin type, and this should be the same process when it comes to your hair. You should use products that target your individual hair and scalp needs and that have ingredients that are guaranteed to provide instant effective results.

Much like skincare, there are hero ingredients when it comes to hair and scalp care too. We regularly hear about skincare ingredients including Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide and Salicylic Acid to name a few and when it comes to haircare, ingredients including Glycerin Squalene are fantastic in delivering intense moisture into the hair and scalp. Amino Acids are great volumising agents too.

Looking after your scalp and using quality ingredients is essential to create an ideal environment for strong hair growth. Not properly caring for your scalp can lead to hair loss and other hair concerns including a dry and irritable scalp, significantly impacting the appearance of your hair. A healthy scalp will instead lead to strong, healthy and vibrant looking hair.

So how can you update your hair care routine to ensure you are looking after your scalp and skinify your hair routine?

  1. Exfoliate your scalp to remove product build up whilst combatting issues such as dryness, flakiness and dandruff and to stimulate and soothe your scalp

  2. Ensure you are giving your hair and scalp a thorough cleanse with a targeted shampoo and conditioner

  3. Treat your hair with a hair mask that will specifically target any hair concerns you have e.g. dryness/breakage

  4. Incorporate serums and oils into your routine that will add an extra dose of moisture to your hair and scalp whilst also helping improve hair softness and shine

  5. Massage your scalp! Particularly when you are applying products such as conditioners, hair masks and oils, massaging the scalp will increase blood circulation to the hair, stimulating hair growth and allowing the products to deeply penetrate the hair and scalp.

When choosing new products for your hair care routine such as a hair exfoliator or serum/oil, ensure that you are looking at the ingredients and choosing products that will optimise your hair routine. Alongside moisturising ingredients like Squalene and Glycerin, I love essential oils such as Lavender and Peppermint to help improve blood circulation to the scalp. Aloe Vera is another fantastic ingredient for soothing and moisturising. Salicylic Acid and Hyaluronic Acid are common in facial skincare products but are also being used more commonly in haircare products too for exfoliation and retaining moisture, keeping the scalp healthy and hydrated.
